News From the Front Desk - March 2026 Ellington Racquet Club

A Spring Refresh!

As we enter our second March in the facility, we’re refreshing and updating our space.

As part of this effort, we will be posting weekly updates on our tennis ladder standings. Nearby, you’ll also find more information about club happenings and upcoming opportunities for you. We hope you enjoy these new additions.

We also have a fun request – especially for those with a bit of tennis history. We’d like to showcase some of the “classic” tennis racquets you may have in your collections. These older tennis racquets often hold great memories, and we’d like to display them on the front wall next to the electrical room.

If you’d like to participate, simply bring in a racquet (or three) and fill out a note card with your name, the racquet’s age, and any special memories associated with it. Wooden racquets, racquets with presses or any historically meaningful racquets are welcome.

Women’s Singles Tennis Ladder Starting Soon

Ladies, if you’re out of high school, and currently not a college player, and are looking to play singles on a regular basis, we have some great news. We’re launching a Women’s Singles Ladder on Sunday afternoons 3:00-4:30 p.m.

We’re looking to get 8 women committed to weekly play. Each Sunday session will include three sets of tennis with one set being played against three different women.

Cost: $25/week for ERC members and $35/week for non-members.

Start Date: As soon as we have enough interest.

Please let us know ASAP if you’d like to join!

Our Upcoming Tennis Tournament

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. Based on your input, we will be conducting a traditional tennis tournament with divisions for:

- Men’s Singles
- Men’s Doubles
- Women’s Singles
- Women’s Doubles
- Mixed Doubles

This event will take place over two weekends, April 10-12 and April 17-19.

Matches will begin on Friday nights and continue Saturdays and Sundays. As we schedule matches, we will do our best to accommodate any USTA match conflicts you may have.

The tournament will be open to those with an NTRP of 4.5 or lower.

More information will be shared soon!

Pickleball Ladders

With growing interest in both tennis and pickleball, we are excited to expand our ladder offerings.

A ladder is essentially a league in which players compete against each other to earn a ranking based on the results of your matches.

WE WILL BE ADDING:

- Men’s Doubles Pickleball Ladder: Wednesday nights, 6:30-8:00
- Women’s Doubles Pickleball Ladder: Thursday nights, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Cost is $11/week for ERC members and $16/week for non-members.

Training for Better Play

We all enjoy getting out on the courts, but physical training is often the missing ingredient to improving performance.

There’s a saying worth remembering…

“You don’t play tennis to get in shape.
You get in shape to play tennis.”

This saying applies just as much to competitive pickleball play.

While we don’t need to be like Sanjeet Rakwal, a member of our 3.5 Men’s USTA team, who has completed half-marathons in 44 of the US states so far, far we do want to support your fitness training.

For those looking for structured training, we encourage you to connect with Kern Alexander, another member of our men’s 3.5 USTA team. Kern is a certified virtual trainer. If you’re interested, please ask one of our Front Desk staff for Kern’s contact information.

Tennis Racquet Stringing and Racquet Sales

ERC tennis pro Scott Barker offers fast, reliable racquet stringing. Pricing is available at the Front Desk.

Additionally, our “demo” tennis racquets displayed on the front wall are available for purchase: high-quality equipment at special pricing. Please check with the Front Desk for pricing.

Refer a Friend

We are always excited to welcome new members to the club.

If you refer someone who becomes an ERC member, both you and the new member will receive one hour of free court time.

If you know someone who may enjoy playing here, please encourage them to reach out or stop by the club to learn more about membership.

Let's Keep in Touch!

That’s it for this month, but please keep in touch with any questions or suggestions you have. This is your club!
